According to the World Bank Women are the backbone of the rural economy, especially in developing countries. They make up almost half of the world's farmers, and over the last few decades, they have broadened their involvement in agriculture. In Africa, women make up 60 - 80% of Agriculture's labour force and few farm beyond a subsistence level. The NPO African Women in Agriculture is trying to change that by nurturing a new generation of Agripreneurs into the agricultural ecosystem. AWiA chairperson Janice Scheckter spoke to SABC News about the launch of their Lwazi Incubator and how they plan to empower 12 young female farmers.
