Trump to welcome president of Nigeria to White House

President Donald Trump will welcome the leader of Nigeria to the White House later this month.

Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says in a statement that Trump will welcome President Muhammadu Buhari on April 30.

Sanders says the two will discuss economic reforms, fighting terrorism and ways to grow Nigeria's "role as a democratic leader in the region." She adds that the United States has a "deep and strong" relationship with Nigeria.

Buhari recently declared plans to run for a second four-year term in 2019. The vote next year will be the ninth presidential election in Africa's most populous nation since its independence from Britain in 1960.

Nigeria's ongoing challenges include the deadly Boko Haram insurgency and a weak economy.

Oluwatobiloba Amusan is the First Nigerian to Win Gold in the 100m Hurdles at the Commonwealth Games

The 20-year-old track star sprinted to victory in just 12.68 seconds.

Oluwatobiloba Amusan is the latest African athlete to see unprecedented success at the Commonwealth Games currently underway in Australia.

The 20-year-old Nigerian runner has become the first Nigerian to win gold at the 100m hurdles according to The Cable Nigeria. She is the first Nigerian to earn a medal so far at this year's games. Her win brings Nigeria's total medals to eight, putting the country in eighth place overall.

Amusan, who is the reigning American Collegiate 100m hurdle champion, finished the 100m hurdle race in just 12.68 seconds, coming out ahead of Jamaica's Danielle Williams and Yanique Thompson who earned the silver and bronze respectively.

Amusan is the third Nigerian woman to win a medal for the 100m race after Modupe Oshikoya who won bronze in 1974 and Angela Atiede who also won bronze in 2002.

Africa athletes continue to dominate at the games and we're delighted to be able to cheer them on.
