In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about Nigeria.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, with over 188 million people. That means that about 18% of all Africans are Nigerian. Almost half of Nigerians are 14 years old or younger. At its current growth rate, the UN estimates that by 2100 Nigeria’s population will be between 505 million and 1.03 billion people.

2. Nigeria is one of the oldest known locations for human existence. The first traces of human activity dates back to at least 8000 BC, the area being occupied by foragers. The first civilization, the Nok, appeared in the area around the year 1000 BC and flourished for about 1500 years, until they vanished under unknown circumstances.

3. Nollywood, or the Nigerian film industry, has been ranked as the second largest movie producer in the world, behind India’s Bollywood, but ahead of the American Hollywood. There are over 2000 film companies registered in Nigeria, which produce between 50 and 200 movies per week!

4. The Third Mainland Bridge is the longest of three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the mainland, the other two being the Eko and Carter bridges. With a length of 11.8 km, it was the longest bridge in Africa until 1996 when the October 6th Bridge located in Cairo was completed.

5. Nigeria is the 12th largest producer of petroleum in the world and the 8th largest exporter, and has the 10th largest proven reserves. Petroleum plays a large role in the Nigerian economy, accounting for 40% of GDP and 80% of Government earnings. As of 2014 it is the largest economy in Africa, having overtaken South Africa.

6. Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria, replacing the country's most populous city of Lagos as the capital on 12 December 1991. The city, with its adjoining conurbation, is the largest in Nigeria, as well as on the African continent. It is one of the fastest growing in the world and also one of the most populous urban agglomerations. Lagos is a major financial centre in Africa; the megacity has the highest GDP and also houses one of the largest and busiest ports on the continent. It has also been ranked as one of the most expensive cities in the world.

7. Nigeria has more than 500 ethnic groups, with varying languages and customs, creating a country of rich ethnic diversity. There are 521 languages that have been spoken in Nigeria (nine of which are now extinct). Nigerians are nearly equally divided into Christians and Muslims, with a tiny minority of adherents of Animism and other religions.
