African Federation of the Deaf Blind
Who are we?
- The AFDB aims to improve the quality of life of people with deaf blindness in Africa, with the objective of achieving their equal rights and equal opportunities in all areas of society, to be an African forum for the exchange of knowledge and experiences in the area of deaf blindness, and to increase international solidarity among organisations of people with deaf blindness in Africa.Deaf blindness, a dual sensory (sight and hearing) impairment, with a consequential loss of the ability to communicate with the surroundings without assistance, and the mobility to move freely around without assistance, puts people in isolation. Among AFDB's objectives is to advocate towards appropriate services for people with deaf blindness and to have deaf blindness and the causes of deaf blindness included in the ADP/MFL and World Health Organization (WHO) International Classification Lists for Functioning and diseases.
